India's Solar Module Manufacturing Capacity Doubles to 74 GW

India's solar module manufacturing capacity nearly doubled from 38 GW to 74 GW in one year, while PV cell capacity tripled from 9 GW to 25 GW.
Manufacturing Boom
India achieved a remarkable feat in solar manufacturing with module capacity nearly doubling from 38 GW in March 2024 to 74 GW in March 2025. Solar PV cell manufacturing capacity tripled from 9 GW to 25 GW during the same period.
Record Capacity Addition
India added an unprecedented 25 GW of renewable energy capacity in FY 2024-25, marking an increase of nearly 35% over the previous year's addition of 18.57 GW. Solar power led the growth with capacity additions soaring from 15 GW in FY24 to nearly 21 GW in FY25, a remarkable 38% increase.
Self-Reliance Drive
This manufacturing surge supports India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, reducing dependence on imports and strengthening domestic solar supply chains. The Production-Linked Incentive scheme has been instrumental in attracting investments worth Rs 52,900 crore and creating around 44,400 jobs.
