India's Renewable Energy Capacity Crosses 250 GW Milestone

India's installed non-fossil fuel capacity reaches 250 GW in September 2025, representing three-fold increase since 2014 and achieving 50% clean energy target.

Historic Achievement

India's installed non-fossil fuel capacity witnessed extraordinary rise from 81 GW before 2014 to 250 GW in September 2025, representing three-fold increase. This establishes India as 4th largest globally in renewable energy installed capacity.

Solar Leadership

Solar power experienced remarkable 42-fold surge with installed capacity increasing from 2.82 GW in 2014 to 123.13 GW as of August 2025. India achieved record 22 GW renewable energy capacity addition in first half of 2025, marking highest-ever six-month installation period.

50% Clean Energy Target

Renewable energy generation rose from 190.96 billion units in 2014-15 to 403 billion units in 2024-25. Renewables now comprise 50.07% of India's total installed power capacity, achieving COP26 commitment five years ahead of 2030 target.

Investment Attraction

Sector received $23 billion foreign investment from April 2020 to June 2025. Government allowed 100% FDI under automatic route for renewable energy generation and distribution projects, boosting investor confidence.
